Robert McNabb and the Flying Doves
Robert McNabb is a singer-songwriter and rhythm guitarist originally from North Carolina who made Floyd County, Virginia his home since 1989. His musical journey began at age 14 with a red, white, and blue Buck Owens guitar, though it was personal tragedy that sparked him to begin writing songs seriously and step into the local music scene. His songs are drawn from real life — love, loss, and the events of the world around us. Robert founded the Flying Doves in 2018, with recordings and a first CD following shortly after. The band built a devoted following in the Virginia Blue Ridge, playing original Americana rooted in Country, Rock, and Soul. In July 2025, a new chapter began. Following the heartbreaking loss of his wife to cancer, Robert spent some difficult years finding his footing before meeting his new soulmate, Angie. Together, they envisioned a fresh start, and the Forgotten Coast of Florida became the destination — a new landscape to match a new life. The move proved to be a musical reunion as well. Jean Gogolin, who had relocated to Florida some years earlier, was ready and waiting — immediately rejoining Robert and Laura Belle Talley on bass and keyboards. Laura Belle, trained in voice from a young age, continues to bring powerful backing vocals and occasional lead to the group. Robert McNabb and the Flying Doves carry on the tradition of honest, story-driven American music — shaped now by the salt air of the Gulf Coast and the hard-won wisdom of a life fully lived.
